Spring is officially here, the clocks have changed and the days are getting longer. The Release Wanaka team LOVE this time of year, as the extra hours in the day mean so much more time for fun activities!
This is a great time of year to visit Wanaka, as there are outdoor activities galore to sink your teeth into. And with COVID-19 putting a temporary stop on overseas travel, there has never been a better time to take a holiday in your own backyard and explore some of the amazing places New Zealand has to offer.
We have been so happy to see so many New Zealanders taking advantage of our COVID-19 promotions and the free nights on offer at a selection of our stunning properties. These deals finish at the end of November, so if you haven’t already (or even if you have, and you can’t wait to get back here!) then book your Wanaka getaway now.
To help persuade you, we’ve compiled a list of our top 5 outdoor activities that you absolutely need to experience for yourselves during your next trip to Wanaka.
1/ Bike Glendhu
When Bike Glendhu opened earlier this year, there were lots of happy mountain bikers keen to go tear it up on the tracks and trails the park has to offer.
There is something for everyone here, with some low-key tracks ideal for families, as well as some lung-burners for those with a need for speed & adrenaline. The park is a trail rider’s dream, and the views are amazing, especially from the very top.
2/ Wild Wire
If climbing is your thing, then check out the via-ferrata climbing out by Treble Cone. Wild Wire run a tight ship, and have been offering some great promotions over the last 6 months to get keen climbers up for some fun on the world’s highest waterfall cable climb.
There are three different height options to choose from, varying from 150m to 450m, the highest earning you the title of Lord of the Rungs! You're bound to have heaps of fun, and enjoy some spectacular views while you're up there.
3/ Adventure Wanaka
Adventure Wanaka offer a variety of different activities out on the lake for those of you wanting to get out on the water and explore wonderful Lake Wanaka.
Whether you want to try your hand at fishing and catch your dinner, or get out to Mou Waho & see the famous island on a lake on an island on a lake…. You need to see it to believe it!
4/ Paddle Wanaka
A trip to Wanaka isn’t complete without getting out and about on the lake, and what better way than combining with some exercise and giving kayaking a try?
Paddle Wanaka offer some great guided and non-guided tour options. We recommend ‘The Mission’ – a 4 hour half day adventure. The friendly team at Paddle Wanaka will help you plan your route, provide all the equipment you need & drop you off to the start point. You can then paddle back at your own pace. Perfect for families, couples or groups of friends to get out and explore together.
5/ Mt Iron
Another must-do while in Wanaka, take a hike up Mt Iron and see Lake Wanaka from above.
Stunning panoramic views greet you from the top of the loop track, which has various start points along the bottom of the track. If it’s warm, take your water bottle and a sun hat as there isn’t much shade going up.
