Overview

Located in New Zealand’s South Island just 20 minutes drive from central Wanaka, 90 minutes drive from Queenstown or a 10 minute helicopter flight from Queenstown Airport, the Ridgeline Homestead and Cottages at Mahu Whenua are easily accessible while giving you the feeling of seclusion and privacy on what is virtually your own private national park. The property consists of four adjoining high country sheep stations – Motatapu, Mt Soho, Glencoe and Coronet Peak – which, combined, stretch from Glendhu Bay in Wanaka all the way through to Arrowtown in Queenstown and host some of the most iconic and dramatic natural alpine scenery in New Zealand. Five luxurious Ridgeline Suites offer incredible views and supreme privacy. Sleeping up to two people each, they feature a king or king-split bed, an ensuite and are equipped with Wi-Fi and television. The Komako Family Suite also has an adjoining bunk room which can accommodate 2 additional children under 16 years old.

As a Mahu Whenua guest you will enjoy total privacy, unforgettable experiences and exquisite food and wine in a setting which spans over 55,000 hectares (550sq km or 200sq miles) of majestic beauty – towering mountains, lush green valleys, native bush, forests and meandering rivers. With each suite stay you will have access to all of the Homestead facilities, including two open fireplaces, a large open living area with expansive views and a fully equipped farmhouse kitchen. Inside the Homestead you’ll also enjoy two dining areas, a library, as well as plenty of storage. Outside, there are several spots to unwind – two dining areas, a spa pool (hot tub), a sheltered swimming pool and large decking area to make the most of the incredible views and location. Accommodation includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning and afternoon teas, pre-dinner canapés, refreshments and picnics, as well as a complimentary premium wine or beverage served with canapés.

The Ridgeline Homestead Suites and Cottages at Mahu Whenua
The Tui Master Suite is located within the main homestead and offers incredible views over Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. The room has a King bed and a beautiful in-room copper bathtub. The decor is rustic and romantic, and the large en-suite features a twin vanity, separate toilet and huge walk-in shower, which also enjoys views of Lake Wanaka.

The Kereru Suite is located in the main homestead and is our largest suite, which enjoys beautiful views of Lake Wanaka and the Mototapu Valley. This spacious room has a king-split bed and large wrap-around verandah. The ensuite has twin vanity, separate toilet and shower over bath. This room has recently been refurbished with sumptuous carpets.

The Komako Suite is a large suite on the lower level of the main homestead, with a king-split bed, and a seating area with a large television. The Komako suite adjoins a separate bunk room which can be booked as an extension to this suite to cater to families of up to 2 adults + 2 children. The ensuite bathroom has a large bath and separate shower.

The Cottage Suites are standalone units adjacent to the main homestead and nestled very privately amongst native beech forest, each with a king-split bed. Each Cottage Suite has a private terrace with fabulous views of the Motatapu Valley or the stables. These entry-level suites feature kitchenettes, laundry facilities, and the ensuite features twin vanity and a shower over bath.
