Only a 20minute drive from Wanaka on the Cardrona Valley Road, you will come to the small village of Cardrona. The area is well known for Cardrona Alpine Resort but there are definitely a few other things to see and do to make a great day out. Here are a few ideas to enjoy your time in this stunning area, surrounded by mountains and set in a delightful valley.
Heading along the main Cardrona Valley Road and before you reach the Cardrona Alpine Resort access road, you will see a turn-off to the right, where you can view the infamous “Bra Fence”. Pushed by locals to continue growing and spread awareness of Breast Cancer, the “Bra Fence” is a great photo opportunity and an interesting addition to Cardrona's uniqueness.
Heading down the same turn off you will come to Cardrona Distillery. Here you can take a tour and learn about the art of making hand-distilled artisan spirits and finish it off with a tasting. The tours take approximately 75-90minutes and are available from 10am-3pm every day.

Further along the road, if you fancy an icecream/coffee/cake/soft drink……., you can stop off at the General Store. Open from 7am it is a great place to fuel up before your next adventure or grab a take away.
If you are after a lunch date, head to The Cardrona Hotel, where they have the most beautiful beer garden. The menu is varied and it is perfect for the kids, with outdoor swings and games to keep them entertained, while you sit back and relax with a local brew. Next door, in a cute little gallery, you will find a selection of local pieces, so you can take a piece of Cardrona home with you.

If you are looking for something a bit more active then head to “The Cardrona”. Located at the same turn off as the distillery, they offer Horse Trekking and Quad Biking. They provide one on one riding lessons or numerous treks including ‘Twilight Rides’. The Quad Biking is adapted to your personal ability, so is suitable for everyone and it will take you up to some amazing views only accessible by Quads.
