Short Walks Around Wanaka

Short Walks Around Wanaka

There is an abundance of walking tracks in and around Wanaka. Ranging from an easy stroll to a more challenging climb we have listed 5 walking tra which offer something for everyone. So if you have a free morning or afternoon and want to get out in the fresh air, then check these out.

Mount Iron Track - 4.5km  1h 30m return

“The track begins over the stile by the car park, taking the left fork, climbs through low Kanuka shrubland on Mount Iron's western side to the summit. After taking in the view and the information on the panels, follow the track to descend on the eastern side and return around the foot of the hill to the car park.” - We think taking a right at the stile and doing it in the opposite direction is a better way as you approach the top from the eastern side the terrain opens up to 360-degree views.

Eely Point to Wanaka township and back - 3.6km 1h return

“Follow the 4WD track from the car park, climbing to the lake where the circuit track is marked. Another track winds up to a lookout above Diamond Lake. Beyond here, there’s a choice of the Lake Wanaka lookout, off to the right or to Rocky Mountain’s 775-m summit via a loop track. Spectacular views include Lake Wanaka and a skyline dominated by the surrounding peaks. The distinct shape of Mount Aspiring/ Tititea lies to the west.”
