The Managers House
This stunning architecturally designed luxury self-contained Wanaka villa is sited on a superb hillside site overlooking rolling farmland with panoramic views of alpine peaks.
Architects from California and New Zealand combined on this stunning Wanaka project. With distant views of alpine peaks, the hillside site overlooks rolling farmland and to the east is the Hawkesbury Estates pinot noir vineyard. Directly behind rises the prominent Mt Barker. The building was designed to merge with the barren hillside, rather than to stick out from it. A long, thin footprint allows for views of the mountains from every room.
The "great room" includes the kitchen, living room and indoor/outdoor dining rooms. At the back of the great room, a wood wall conceals the study, bathrooms, refrigerator and ladder access to a loft. A retaining wall, constructed of a local stone called Gibbston Valley Schist, runs from the living room to the exterior patio and incorporates an outdoor fireplace and benches. A private wing contains the master suite and two other bedrooms. Minimum stay is 4 nights.
